Indonesia in high hope to resume talks with GAM

The Indonesian government said Friday the separatist Free Aceh Movement (GAM) has agreed Jakarta offer of a greater autonomy in Aceh province, and a group of ministers will depart to Helsinki Saturday to resume talks with GAM.

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security AffairsWidodo Adi Sucipto said GAM has agreed that the special autonomy status for Aceh will become the main agenda.

"Based on the confirmation, the (government) team will depart tomorrow," he told reporters at the presidential office here.

He said the government hopes that the Helsinki meeting will bring about concrete progress for a permanent settlement of conflicts in Aceh, which was ravaged by decades-long rebellion andthe Dec. 26 tsunami.
