The Lishui Geological Prospecting Team of Zhejiang Province revealed that abundant dinosaur egg fossils were discovered at a construction site at the foot of Baiyun Mountain in northern Lishui City.

These egg fossils were lying in the cretaceous layer, which supported the argument that "Zhejiang was dinosaurs' paradise during the lower Cretaceous Period". This viewpoint, proposed by some geologists, had been a controversial topic for a long time.

On-the-spot investigation showed that the dinosaur egg fossils were located on a small hill in Chenguan Township's Liyangdian Village within the jurisdiction of Lishui City.

The more than one hundred egg fossils were inlaid in purple rocks, dispersed amongst different nests. There were five to seven eggs in each nest, and some were scattered outside of the cluster of nests.

These eggs had ellipsoid and spheroid shapes, were large (about eight to eleven centimeters by twelve to sixteen centimeters) with one to three millimeter thick eggshells.

It was learnt that this was Zhejiang's first discovery of so many dinosaur egg fossils in the cretaceous layer.

Farmers found some skeletal pieces of dinosaurs in 1958 in the cretaceous layer of Lishui in Liancheng Town. In recent years, neck bone and bladebone fossils of Sauropod dinosaurs were discovered during the construction of the Jinhua-Wenzhou Expressway. Besides, some dinosaur fossils were also found in the cretaceous layer at the foot of Shima Mountain in Xinchang.
