Unit sales of the TV and mobile phone divisions of TCL Corp. jumped 65 percent in January as each got new contributions from recently formed joint ventures.
TCL International Holdings Ltd., which last year formed a joint venture with France's Thomson by combining their TV-making assets, said its television output rose to 2.35 million units in January from 1.42 million units the same month a year earlier.
Of the latest total, 762,885 unit sales came from overseas markets, up from 286,050 a year earlier. The sharp boost came from the addition of Thomson's operations, mostly in Europe and North America.
In its core domestic market, TCL International's sales rose 40 percent to 1.59 million.
Meantime, TCL's mobile phone making unit TCL Communication Technology Holdings saw its unit sales of mobile phones climb to 1.17 million units in January from 708,649 a year earlier.
Of the latest total, 532,506 units came from the firm's joint venture formed last year with France's Alcatel, which included Alcatels mobile phone making assets.
