Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has told the North Atlantic Treaty Organization that Ukraine seeks long-term integration with both the 26-member defence alliance and the European Union.
Viktor Yushchenko also pledged to forge ahead with tough reforms in political, economic, social and defence systems in order to gain membership of both groups.
Speaking at a conference of the NATO-Ukraine Commission in Brussels, Belgium, Viktor Yushchenko promised that Ukraine will implement the Ukraine-NATO action plan to maintain peace and safety of Europe.
In another development, Ukraine's vice primer Oleg Rybachuk has announced that Ukraine and the EU have respectively passed the 2005-2007 Ukraine-EU action plans which will be an important basis for the EU to draw up future policies on Ukraine.
