China and the United States will strengthen their drug-fighting cooperation, making it "all-around, reciprocal, practical and effective," Zhou Yongkang, director of China's National Narcotics Control Commission, said in Beijing on February 24.
Zhou made the statement at a meeting with Karen Tandy, administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) of the US Justice Department.
The two met after the DEA and the Drug-fighting Bureau of China's Public Security Ministry signed a memorandum of intent on drug-fighting cooperation.
Zhou, also a State Councilor, said China "attached great importance" to drug-fighting cooperation with the United States, and that it had been "effective and satisfactory."
Tandy said the United States was willing to further implement the memorandum of understanding on drug-fighting cooperation signed by the two governments in 1987 to crack down on cross-border drug smuggling.
She also thanked China for its assistance in US drug enforcement activities in past years.
