China uncovered 16.7-billion-US-dollars-worthy import and export goods which failed to meet the required quality standards in 2004, according to a report released by the state quality watchdog at a press conference Tuesday.

China inspected and quarantined 12.67 million batches of import and export goods last year, with the commodity value at 571.7 billion US dollars, the State Administration for Quality Supervision and Inspection and Quarantine said in a report.

A total of 16,692 cases of animal and plant epidemics have been intercepted from import goods, said the report.
