S.Korea admits soldier accidentally fires at DPRK post

South Korean military admitted on Tuesday that its solder accidentally fired bullet at a post of Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in the eastern part of the inter-Korean border on Monday evening.

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said that a rifle bullet had accidentally been fired at a DPRK military post from a South Korean guard post in Yanggu, about 175 kilometers northeast of Seoul, shortly after 7 p.m. (1000 GMT) Monday.

"The bullet was fired during a safety check of rifles," the JCSwas quoted as saying by South Korean Yonhap News Agency, adding "We instantly broadcast that it was an accidental firing, but therewas no response from the North (DPRK)."

Meanwhile, Yonhap reported that the DPRK's Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) carried an article on Tuesday, demanding an "apology" from South Korea over the accident and punish those responsible for the incident.
