China honored ten Chinese women as "national exemplary workers" and awarded another 500 women for their outstanding achievements on Tuesday as the country celebrates the International Working Women's Day, which falls on March 8.
Gu Xiulian, vice-chairwoman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee and president of the All-China Women's Federation, said here Tuesday at a conference to mark the day's 95th anniversary that the Chinese women have credited themselves as holding up "half of the sky." They have made great contributions to the country's economic and social development.
Vice-chairman of the NPC Standing Committee Wang Zhaoguo, has called on the women receiving the awards to set an exemplary role, maintain their "advanced nature," and "achieve new glory," when he met them before the conference.
Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Yi was present on the occasion.
