A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Tuesday called on officials to improve their capability of governance through internal education drive to maintain high character of CPC members.

Through the widespread internal education on CPC members, senior party and government officials should improve their consciousness for serving people, governing in the democratic and scientific manner as well as in line with laws, said Zeng Qinghong,a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, at the opening ceremony for a new semester of the Party School of CPC Central Committee.

The key to improve the governance of the Party lies on maintaining the "advanced nature" of the Party members, said Zeng, also the president of the Central Party School.

Chinese President Hu Jintao, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, called on party members to maintain their vanguard character in his recent talks.

The effect of the nationwide education will finally be seen in how officials improve their work, Zeng said.
