China has provided Tanzania with a donation of 100,000 US dollars in support of its disaster relief efforts.
On behalf of the China Charity Federation, Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania Yu Qingtai handed over the donation to Tanzanian Foreign Minister Yakaya Kikwete here on Tuesday. Tanzania is one of the 11 countries badly hit by last December's tsunami in the Indian Ocean.
"We express our sincerest thanks to the Chinese government and the Chinese people," Kikwete said, adding that he hopes the long-time friendly relations between the two countries will continue.
Minister Kikwete said this shows that the Chinese people are Tanzania's true friends and also that China is a responsible big country.
Tanzania lost 10 lives and a great deal of properties along its seashore after the tsunami disaster. Some parts of the under-water oil pipes were also destroyed by the huge waves.
Nearly 200,000 people were killed by the tidal waves in Asian and east African countries lining the Indian Ocean on December 26,2004.
The China Charity Federation has received over 17 million US dollars in donation for tsunami-hit areas through its branches across China after the disaster occurred last December.
