China to make law to prohibit sexual harassment
font size

Amendment to the Assurance Law of Women's rights and interests has been listed in the legislative plan this year. The All China Women's Federation had completed the amendment draft of the law by the end of 2004 and has already submitted the draft to the State Council, Beijing Morning Post reported.

The amendment draft suggests that equality between man and woman should be incorporated into the general clause. It proposes that the equality principle should be observed in fields including employment, promotion, getting technical titles and retirement.

In addition, the draft puts forward equality between man and woman in retirement for the first time. Prohibiting sexual harassment of women and prevention of workplace sexual harassment are included in the draft too. It is the first time for the concept "sexual harassment" to appear in Chinese laws.
