Construction of Beijing-Tianjin inter-city railway to start in July

On behalf of Ministry of Railway, Beijing and Tianjin Municipal governments respectively, Minister of Railway Liu Zhijun, Mayor of Beijing Wang Qishan and Mayor of Tianjin Dai Xiangguo signed the summary of meeting, according to which the Beijing-Tianjin inter-city railway scheduled to start in July 2005 will be completed by December 2007 and put into operation in July 2008.

Ministry of Railway and People's governments of Beijing and Tianjin held the leading group meeting on the construction of Beijing-Tianjin inter-city railway traffic system on Mar. 3. The overall length of Beijing-Tianjin inter-city railway is 115 kilometers and the velocity of trains passing through the system can reach 200 kilometers per hour.

The Beijing-Tianjin inter-city traffic system will be the first high-level passenger special railway that China constructs. The passenger special railway connects two big municipalities of Beijing and Tianjin, and will serve as one of the key projects for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
