Top legislator Wu Bangguo on Friday called on members of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in the country's top advisory body to fully respect members of the non-Communist parties and personages without party affiliation and cooperate with them in carrying out the policies of the CPC and government.

The system of multi-party cooperation and political consultation under the CPC's leadership is a basic political system that suits China's national conditions, said Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the supreme legislature of the country.

The CPC Central Committee, which always attaches importance to the system, has recently issued a guideline for strengthening the system, said Wu, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, when he joined in the joint panel discussion of members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

At the joint panel discussion of CPPCC members from the economic and agriculture circles, Premier Wen Jiabao said the promoting reform and development and maintaining stability remained an arduous task before the Chinese people this year, though great achievements had been made.

He called for redoubled efforts to make good plans for all the work and give greater priority to reform, while keeping sober-minded with a strong sense of crisis.

The Chinese premier promised the State Council will earnestly study and draw on the opinions and suggestions of CPPCC members in an active manner.

Vice President Zeng Qinghong voiced the hope that all non-Communist parties would work in cooperation with the CPC and make joint efforts to promote the great cause of socialism for economic, political, cultural and social development with Chinese characteristics.

To turn Chinese society into a harmonious socialist one is the glorious mission of the ruling party, the important duty of the non-Communist parties and the common responsibility of the whole society, Zeng said at a joint panel discussion involving CPPCC members from China Democratic League and China Association for Promoting Democracy.

He also had an exchange of views with the CPPCC National Committee members on maintaining prosperity and stability in Hong Kong and Macao and realizing the complete reunification of the motherland.

Vice Premier Huang Ju said the government will continue to give priority to resolve issues related to the basic interests of the people, trying hard to create more job opportunities, stepping up vocational training and establishing a long-term mechanism to promote employment.

The government will also promote the reform of the social security system, enlarge the coverage of social insurance and uphold social fairness and justice so as to make a new contribution in building a harmonious socialist society, said Huang when he attended the joint panel discussion of CPPCC members from the All-China Federation of Trade Unions and the social welfare and security circles.

Wu Guanzheng, who leads the CPC's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, said serious efforts will be made to mete out tough blows to corrupt officials, while intensifying efforts to guard against corruption.

The supervision over leading officials, principal leading officials in particular, will be beefed up, Wu told CPPCC members from the Communist Youth League and all-China federations of youth and women at their joint panel discussion.

Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said it was high time to prosper and develop socialist literary and art undertakings in China at present, and therefore he hoped art workers would enhance their sense of responsibility and urgency to accelerate the development of China's cultural cause.

Work must be done to prompt China's cultural products to "go abroad" so as to make Chinese culture more influential and competitive in the world, said Li at a joint panel discussion of CPPCC members from the literary and art circles.

Luo Gan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, focused his speech on medical and health work, which he said was closely related to the life and health of the people.

To do a good job in this regard is of great importance to implement the concept of scientific development in an all-round way and build a harmonious socialist society in China, Luo told the CPPCC members from the medical and health care at their joint panel discussion.

Luo also underscored the importance of public health work in both urban and rural areas.
