Top Chinese leaders Sunday joined deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC) and members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in their panel discussions about the government work report delivered by Premier Wen Jiabao.

After listening to some NPC deputies from Zhejiang Province, east China, President Hu Jintao stressed the importance to implement the scientific outlook on development and called for intensified efforts to strengthen macro-economic control, reform, opening up and the building of a harmonious socialist society.

He asked leading officials at various levels to work hard and always keep the people in mind so as to contribute to the development of the Party and people's cause and make achievements that can stand the test of time.

Joining NPC deputies from Hong Kong and Macao, NPC Standing Committee Chairman Wu Bangguo praised the regional governments for their efforts in maintaining social stability and boosting social and economic growth, which are crucial to the long-term prosperity and stability of the two special administrative regions and are inline with the common interests of the people there.

The continuing progress in Hong Kong and Macao has proved the principle of "one country, two systems," "Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong," "Macao people governing Macao," and a high degree of autonomy is "completely correct."

It also shows that the local people have the wisdom, ability and measures to manage, build and develop Hong Kong and Macao well, he said.

At the discussion of personages without political affiliation, CPPCC National Committee Chairman Jia Qinglin reiterated the ruling Communist Party of Party (CPC) will intensify multi-party cooperation and political consultation with non-Communist parties that participate in the discussion and the handling of state affairs.

He encouraged these personages to make further contribution to the country's social and economic development, for which CPC committees and governments at all levels with create favorable conditions.

Vice-President Zeng Qinghong joined in discussions of NPC deputies from Hainan Province, and encouraged people of the southern island province to take the local natural and ecological advantages to accelerate development.
