Central bank Shanghai branch should play bigger role: governor
font size

The Shanghai branch of the People's Bank of China, or the central bank, should play a "better and all-round" role in providing services for the national financial market, central banker Zhou Xiaochuan said here Monday.

Zhou made the remarks in a reply to a question on "whether the central bank plans to move some of its operations to Shanghai" at a press conference held during the annual session of National People's Congress.

Shanghai occupies a special status in China's economy and finance.

It provides national financial services as a center of multi-financial markets.
