China urges bilateral military alliance to keep bilateral nature
font size

China has always held that the military alliance between any two countries should not go beyond the bilateral scope, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said in Beijing Tuesday.

"While dealing with the relationship of alliance, the countries concerned should take into full consideration the interests and concerns of other countries in the region," spokesman Liu Jianchao said in response to a question regarding US-Australia military alliance.

The countries concerned should work for the peace and stabilityof the whole region, Liu told the regular press conference that falls on every Tuesday and Thursday.

"Taiwan is an inseparable territory of China. The Taiwan question, China's internal affairs, has a bearing on China's sovereignty and territorial integrity," he said.

Liu called on the relevant countries to honor their commitment on Taiwan by taking actual measures.

Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing said Sunday that it constitutes the infringement upon China's sovereignty and intervention in the country's internal affairs to "directly or indirectly include Taiwan in the framework of the US-Japan security alliance", and that "the Chinese government and people isin resolute opposition to it."

If it goes beyond its bilateral scope, the US-Japan alliance will definitely "arouse uneasiness on the part of Asian countries and bring complicated factors to the regional security situation,"said the minister.
