Humanitarian organizations protests during Rice visit in Mexico
font size

Different organizations demonstrated Thursday on the streets of Mexico City, against the visit of US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who was accused of promoting war and human rights violations.

The police said that the protests were not numerous and took place in four different points of the capital, without serious incidents.

Rice arrived here Thursday morning here for an official seven-hour visit, which includes a meeting with Mexican President Vicente Fox, and the analysis of the bilateral agenda with Foreign Minister Luis Derbez.

As part of the protests, Amnesty International called on the Mexican government to say to Rice "it is necessary to respect and strengthen the multilateral system as a must to guarantee for the respect of human rights worldwide."

The organization stood outside the Embassy of the United States carrying banners and denounced its concern over "the role of Rice in the deterioration of fundamental guarantees and the increase of violence around the world." T Tuesday.
