Shenzhen Jianlibao stun Jubilo Iwata
font size

Chinese Super League champions Shenzhen Jianlibao defeated Japan's Jubilo Ivata 1-0 in the Asian Champions League Group E match.

China Super League reigning champions Shenzhen Jianlibao got off to a flying start in AFC Champions League Group E as a second half-goal by skipper Li Yi fired them to a 1-0 win over Japan's Jubilo Iwata.

The national team striker Li Yi rose high to head home Lu Bofei's corner in the 56th minute as the Chinese team picked up all three points on their debut in the competition against their lacklustre visitors.

Shenzhen lost all three of their games at the recent A3 Champions Cup but there was much for new Shenzhen coach Chi Shangbin to smile about after Wednesday's match.

"I am satisfied with both the result and the team's performance. Our players played very hard and stayed together. We have been in hardship recently but I believe the home win is sort of glory of Chinese football."

Jubilo, the 2004 Emperor's Cup winners, were disappointing with only goalkeeper Yohei Sato, in for the injured Japan No. 1 Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi, having a good game as he turned aside a number of Shenzhen scoring efforts.

Jubilo coach Masakuni Yamamoto said his side will definitely improve when they play their next match at home.
