Chief executive of China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Edmund Ho Hau Wah on Saturday congratulated Tung Chee Hwa, former chief executive of the Hong Kong SAR for being elected as vice chairman of the 10th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) at the closing meeting of the top advisory body's annual session in Beijing.
The message carried on the Macao Information Bureau's website said that during his tenure as chief executive, Tung has done a great deal of pioneering work for the successful implementation ofthe principle of "One country, two systems" in Hong Kong.
Ho said that Tung's contribution to Hong Kong has been fully recognized by the central government and won acknowledgment from the international society.
Tung has pushed forward the cooperation between Hong Kong and Macao and in the Pan-Pearl River Delta Region as a whole during his terms, said Ho, adding that he believed that under the strong and effective leadership of the central government and the guarantee of the Chinese principles of "One country, two systems,""Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong" and "Macao people governing Macao" with a high degree of autonomy, the two SARs will continue to intensify and consolidate the friendly cooperation relations.
