Yang Yang (A) disqualified in women's 1000m semi-final in worlds

China's Olympic champion Yang Yang (A) failed to make the final in the women's 1000m event after her disqualifcation for cross tracking in a semi-final race at the world short track speed skating championships Sunday afternoon in Beijing.

Yang, the first ever Winter Olympic gold medalist for China with victories in women's 500m and 1000m in the 2002 Games in Salt Lake City, fell at the curve with two laps to go when she tried to overtake South Korea's Choi Eun-Kyung.

In another semi-final race of the event, Chinese skater Fu Tianyu was also disqualified for impeding. His teammate Wang Meng became the only Chinese skater in the final.

The final race will be held later in the afternoon.
