Chinese-Thai groups hail enforcement of anti-secession law

Various Chinese-Thai organizations in Thailand have expressed their firm support for the enforcement of China's anti-secession law.

At a seminar held here Monday, Teng Suksudprasert, vice-chairman of the Thai-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, said the anti-secession law, passed earlier in the day by the National People's Congress (NPC), is a law for peaceful reunification.

Visith Leelasithorn, president of the Tiochew Association of Thailand, noted that the approval and enforcement of the law could further safeguard peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

The adoption of the law with a high support rate manifested the common aspiration of the Chinese people and overseas Chinese to oppose secession and "Taiwan independence" and their wish for national reunification, said Amorn Apithanakoon, president of the World Chinese Unity Center in Thailand.

Amorn added that the timely promulgation of the law provides the legal basis for safeguarding peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and would further contain the secessionist activities and surely promote China's national reunification at an early date.

Priao of the United Chinese Clans Association of Thailand and Vichit Lolurlert of the Foundation of Chinese News Reporters in Thailand also voiced their support for China's enactment of the law.

The NPC, China's legislature, passed the 10-article anti-secession law by a vote of 2,896-0, with two abstentions, on Monday morning when it ended an annual session in Beijing.
