Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas said in Cairo Tuesday that he is optimistic about reaching a formal ceasefire with Israel.

Abbas made the remarks after arriving for a new round of inter-Palestinian dialogue aimed at achieving a unified Palestinian stance toward peace talks with the Jewish state.
