    World longest Tibetan calligraphy scroll

    Gamachilie (transliteration), associate professor on literature from Tibet University, spent three years in creating a Tibetan calligraphy scroll more than 130 meters long, which has recently been listed as a Guinness world record.

    Museum of Yin Ruins breaks ground

    The Museum of Yin Ruins broke ground in Anyang City, central China's Henan Province, March 16. The Yin Ruins is China's first documented city ruin of late Shang Dynasty (1600 BC-1100 BC) that has been proved by inscriptions on bones or tortoise shells as well as by archeological discoveries. Completion of the museum is expected upon August 2005.

    Israel handed over control of Jericho to Palestine

    Farewell to red-beaked gulls

    South Koreans protest against Japan's "Takeshima Day"

    South Koreans hold a demonstration in front of the Japanese Embassy to South Korea in Seoul on March 16, 2005. The demonstration was to protest against Japan's Shimane Prefecture's approval of a bill designating Feb. 22 every year as the "Takeshima Day" on Wednesday.

    "Father of Euro" becomes permanent Beijing resident

    Canadian Roberta Mundell (c), the "father of Euro" and Nobel economic prize laureate of 1999 received his green card allowing him permanent residency in Beijing on March 16 in Beijing. Robert Mundell was one of 12 foreigners who were granted green cards at a special ceremony in Beijing yesterday.

    Rice kicks off visit to India
