Cambodian PM calls China's Anti-Secession Law highly necessary
font size

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen reaffirmed on Wednesday his government's full support for China's Anti-Secession Law, calling it highly necessary to the cause of China's national reunification.

During a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Hu Qianwen, Hun Sen said China's Anti-Secession Law conforms to international norms and no foreign country has the right to interfere in the matter.

The prime minister reaffirmed the stance on behalf of himself as well as the royal government of Cambodia.

On Monday, the day when China's National People's Congress passed the Anti-Secession Law, Hun Sen had a phone conversation with Ambassador Hu, expressing his support for the adoption of the law by China's legislature.

Hun Sen said the Anti-Secession Law is of profound historic and realistic significance for China in realizing national reunification. The law shows the common will and strong resolve of the entire Chinese people including Taiwan compatriots, he said.

"Cambodia firmly supports any action and measure that China takes on the Taiwan issue," he said.

He said Cambodia believes that China will surely crush the conspiracy of "Taiwan independence" forces to split China and will achieve the goal of reunification of the nation at an early date.

The Anti-Secession Law, intended to prevent Taiwan's secession from China and clarify China's position on the Taiwan issue, came into effect Monday after Chinese President Hu Jintao signed a presidential decree to promulgate it.
