Sudanese gov't limits US diplomats' movement
font size

The Sudanese government on Thursday announced limitations on the movement of US diplomats in the country in retaliation for similar measures ordered by Washington last year.

Foreign Minister Mustafa Othman Ismail said US diplomats would in future be required to obtain prior authorization to travel more than 25 kms from central Khartoum.

Ismail said the decision was taken after his government assured that the US administration showed no sincerity in lifting an equivalent restriction on Sudanese diplomats in Washington and New York though it had promised to do so.

He expressed hope that the dispute be handled urgently.
