A seminar was held Friday to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Zuo Quan, a general of the Communist Party of China (CPC)-led army and a well-known Chinese hero of the Anti-Japanese War (1937-45).

Guo Boxiong, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), addressed the meeting and recalled the glorious life of Zuo, one of the Chinese army officers trained in the Soviet Union.

Zuo joined the CPC in 1925 and held a series of military positions in the Red Army and the Eighth Route Army until he died in a major battle against the Japanese troops in 1942, Guo said.

Guo called for "learning from the anti-Japanese hero for his loyalty to the Party, the motherland, and the people, as well as his firm belief in the communist ideal."

Present at the seminar were CMC vice chairmen Cao Gangchuan and Xu Caihou and CMC members Liang Guanglie, Li Jinai, Liao Xilong, Chen Bingde and Jing Zhiyuan.
