Council of Europe ministers pass resolution on terrorism

The Council of Europe on Friday passed a resolution on fighting terror and organized crime at the end of a two-day meeting here of interior ministers.

It is necessary for the council to adopt "as soon as possible" draft conventions on cracking down on terrorism, money laundering and human trafficking, the document said.

Polish Interior and Administrative Minister Ryszard Kalisz listed information exchanges and cooperation among law enforcement agencies as priorities in such endeavors.

Any move to clamp down on terrorism must be taken without violating human rights and basic democratic principles, the minister said.

In addition to ministers from member countries, Canada, Japan, the United States, Russia and several international organizations including the United Nations and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization also sent observers to the meeting.
