The US delegation attending the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Commission declared at a press conference on Mar.17 that it was not going to make any anti-China draft resolution this time. For this, Sha Zukang, Chinese ambassador to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, said on the very day, the US decision is on the one hand good for the Sino�CUS dialogue on human rights and on the other beneficial to the improvement of the human rights of the two countries.

It's a good thing for the US not to bring forward any anti-China proposal at the Human Rights conference, Sha Zukang said, this has avoided the Sino-US confrontation at the human rights conference because the confrontation wouldn't do any good for winning over the hearts of the peoples. For many years, China has been offering advices to the US not to stir up confrontation. And now under the condition when the US gave up the confrontation China is willing to carry on dialogues with the US on the basis of equality and mutual respect for a joint solution to the concerns on their respective human rights problems.

Sha Zukang is of opinion that for the US not to put forward any anti-China proposal is a wise decision. He said, China is against the confrontation but will not be afraid of the confrontation. The Chinese government has always been paying high attention to the human rights and is on the way of promoting and improving the human rights ever since the founding of the People's Republic of China, especially after the implementation of the opening to the outside world. The new Chinese government in the office has put forward more distinctively the concept of "taking people as basis for the point of departure" in its administration. For this, the Chinese people feel satisfied. The progress achieved by China in the field of human rights is a universally acknowledged fact, which cannot be denied by any person without prejudice. If the US would do any anti-China proposals the outcome will be bright as in daylight. Therefore, the Chinese side would like to express its appreciation of the wise decision made by the US on judging the hours and sizing up the situation.

Sha Zukang said, to protect and promote the human rights is a long and systematic project and anyway there is no end of it. There is no country in the world on the problem of human rights that can be considered as perfect, in which China and the US are no exception. China will do as did in the past take part in the human rights conference with an active and constructive attitude and is willing to make exchanges of views and opinions via the conference with all parties including the US so as to make more efforts for promoting the mechanism reform of, and revitalizing the vigor and vitality of the Human Rights Commission and the reputation of it as well.

The UN Human Rights Commission consisting of 53 member countries holds an annual conference in March and April every year in Geneva. The conference is going to be opened on 14th and closed by April 22 as expected.
