Commemorating the 600th anniversary of the expedition of the legendary Chinese navigator Zheng He of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), Wen' set off from Taicang of east China's Jiangsu Province on Aug. 8, 2004. Having sailed for 12,500 sea miles across 13 countries, he finally accomplished Zheng He's journey on Mar. 16, 2005.

Strong quake in Japan kills one, injures about 400
Local residents sat in a car park after earthquake hit Fukuoka March 20. The earthquake, which hit at around 10:53 a.m.(0153 GMT), registered a maximum intensity of lower 6 on the Japanese seismic scale of 7 in Fukuoka City and southern Saga Prefecture. At least one is killed and about 400 are injured in the quake.

Coal mine blast kills 60 in Shanxi
Rescuers were laying communication cable at the Xishui coal mine at the Shuozhou City, north China's Shanxi Province March 20. Eight rescue teams have arrived to carry out rescue work. Sixty miners were confirmed dead in the coal mine explosion, which happened around 12:00 March 19, according to the rescue headquarters at the site.

Anti-war protest broke out in the US, UK
Protesters, carrying cardboard coffins draped in American flags, gathered at the Central Park of the New York City to demand that US troops be pulled out of Iraq. Tens of thousands of anti-war protesters took to the streets in the United States and Europe on Saturday to commemorate the second anniversary of the US-led invasion of Iraq and to demand the pullout of foreign troops from the country.

Expansion of Potala Palace Square kicks off
Excavators operating on the Potala Palace Square for its expansion in Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, Mar, 20, 2005. The 140-million-yuan expansion project was officially started on Sunday. The square will cover an area of 18 hectares when the expansion is completed at the end of July.

Li Nina wins China's first world aerials championship
Chinese Li Nina (C) realized China's first ever gold medal at the World Freestyle Ski Championships as she won the aerials with 197.37 points in Ruka, Finland, Mar 18, 2005. Her teammate Guo Xinxin (R) took the bronze with 183.94 points following the runner-up Evelyne Leu (L) of Switzerland.
