People working in service sector in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province, may lost their job, if not passing an AIDS or venereal disease test.

To control the spread of the epidemic, the city's AIDS-control office issued a regulation Monday that starting from this year, AIDS and venereal disease tests will be added into the annual physical examination for the people working in hotel, bath center, beauty salon, night club and other entertainment venues.

Yunnan is the second province to conduct AIDS or venereal disease test in the service sector after central China's Henan Province.

All the 14 counties and districts of the city will set up a database for the testees, and those who passed the physical examination will be given a "good health" certificate by local disease control department, according to the regulation.

"Only with the certificate, they are able to keep their job," said head of the AIDS-control office of Kunming.

A neighbor of the Golden Triangle, one of the main drug source areas in the world, Yunnan first spotted HIV infections in 1989 and presently has more than 18,000 HIV carriers and AIDS suffers, second in the country to central China's Henan Province.

The province has launched six programs since last year to fight against the deadly disease, including the promotion of condom use at hotels and public places of entertainment, free needle exchange, methadone maintenance therapy, HIV/AIDS publicity and the establishment of AIDS treatment and care centers and monitoring systems
