The Russian Foreign Ministry in a statement noted on Monday that the confrontation between the authorities and the opposition in Kyrgyzstan has a negative effect on the situation of the republic.
"Actions that overstep the legal framework escalate tensions, have a negative effect on the political situation and deserve condemnation," the Interfax quoted the statement issued by the Russian ministry as saying.
The document reflects Moscow's concern over the developments insouthern Kyrgyzstan, said Interfax.
At least 10,000 opposition supporters stormed a police station and occupied several state buildings in Kyrgyzstan on Sunday. The riot was the latest in a string of protests sparked by the Feb. 27parliamentary elections won by president Askar Akayev's allies.
"Political differences must be resolved within the framework ofthe law and the constitution on the basis of a constructive dialogue between the government and the opposition. The Kyrgyz government has voiced its readiness for such a dialogue," the Russian ministry's statement says.
Moscow hopes that "international observers, including OSCE representatives who monitored the two rounds of parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan, will be more responsible in formulating their conclusions to prevent destructive elements from using these assessments to justify their lawless actions," said the document.
It also noted "Extremist forces must not be allowed to make use of political instability to create a threat to the democratic foundations of Kyrgyz statehood."
