Iranian Supreme Leader Seyed Ali Khamenei has said that he would wear war attire to defend his country if it was attacked, the official IRNA news agency reported on Tuesday.
"If the prestige and national interests of this nation would be at stake, the Iranian officials, like every other Iranian individual, would selflessly defend, unlike the US politicians. I, too, would wear war attire and get ready for leading the nation in the war," Khamenei was quoted as saying.
Khamenei said that national solidarity, public participation and strong belief were the most effective weapons for the Iranian nation to fight against the enemies' plots.
"Our people and statesmen have got used to the US politicians' threats within the course of the past 26 years and the alert and brave Iranians just do not heed such hallow hue and cry, caring really for their own duties towards advancement and development of their country," said the Iranian leader.
He further denounced that the United States had been consistently fabricate "pretexts" such as pursuing nuclear weapons, supporting terrorists and violating human rights to threaten Iran.
"The Americans know too well that stories about manufacturing of the atomic bomb in Iran are only unfounded fables, and that what really scares them is an Islamic Iran, equipped with modern technology," Khamenei said, adding "the United States is aimed at blocking the Iranian nation's path towards advancement and development."
Khamenei noted that the standard bearers of the human rights in United States were broadest violators of such rights around the globe.
The United States has accused Iran of secretly developing nuclear weapons and repeatedly threatened to launch preemptive attacks upon the country.
Iran, in return, said the accusation was politically motivated and vowed to defeat any aggressors.
