Hong Kong's overall consumer prices rose 0.8 percent in February than a year before, according to a government report on Tuesday.
Analyzed by sub-index and on a year-on-year comparison, the Consumer Price Index (CPI)(A), CPI(B) and CPI(C) rose by 1.1, 0.8 and 0.5 percent, reversing the corresponding falls of 0.2, 0.5 and 1 percent the previous month.
The Census and Statistics Department said the renewed year-on-year increase in the Composite CPI was mainly attributable to the price of basic foodstuffs, cost of meals bought away from home and charges for package tours being higher than usual at around the Lunar New Year, which fell in February this year but in January last year.
Consumer prices are expected to continue to post modest increases in the months ahead, along with the continued strength of the domestic sector and higher retained import prices, the department said.
