Oil pipeline to traverse the Yangtze River
font size

An oil pipeline will travel beneath the Yangtze River for 2.32 kilometers in Jiujiang, east China's Jiangxi Province.

The pipeline section will be the world's longest underneath a river and will be built by the Sinopec Pipeline Transport & Storage Company. It will travel about 60 meters below the river bed.

The company has laid 2.32 kilometers of optical fiber cable under the Yangtze and began laying an oil pipeline of the same length under the river this week.

The section is a part of the crude oil pipeline connecting Yizheng and Changling. It is expected to relieve the oil transport pressure in the oil refining plants in cities along the Yangtze River including Anqing, Jiujiang, Wuhan, Jingmen and Changling.

Building the Yizheng-Changling crude oil pipeline to reduce thecost of oil transportation is one of Sinopec's major projects.
