A branch office of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) was established in Chongqing Municipality on March 21, with the approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chongqing Municipal Government.
The new office in Chongqing would focus on the coverage of education in western China at the moment, said Nick Machie, chief journalist of the Chongqing branch.
The BBC has branches in Beijing and Shanghai.
From March 7 to 13, the BBC broadcast a series of reports called "China Week" concentrating on China's economy, social changes and influence and its international relations with the rest of the world.
Other foreign media groups, such as Singapore's Lianhe Zaobao, FAC of Italy, and News Week from the United States have already established branches in Chongqing.
