An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale jolted sea waters near the coast of northwestern Sumatra, Indonesia at 9:10 a.m. Friday.

According to the Hong Kong Observatory, the epicenter was initially determined to be about 90 kilometers northwest of Banda Ache.
