Chirac arrives in Japan for three-day visit

French President Jacques Chirac arrived in Japan on Saturday to talk with Japanese leaders and visit the Aichi Expo during his three-day stay here.

Chirac and his wife Bernadette flew to Kansai airport of Osaka in the morning, according to Kyodo News.

The president is to attend a reception put up by Japanese business leaders in western Japan, according to the Japanese Foreign Ministry.

Later on the day, he will watch a Sumo match in Osaka.

Chirac will take a short tour Sunday to the venue of the 2005 World Exposition in the neighboring Aichi Prefecture.

He is scheduled to hold a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi late Sunday.

The president will attend a Japan-France forum on Monday beforevisiting Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko.
