Zhai Changping, an employee with the Dalian municipal branch of the Bank of China (BOC) in northeast China's Liaoning Province, was arrested and charged with embezzling six million US dollars, local public security department declared Saturday.

The Dalian municipal branch of the BOC reported to the local public security department on Jan. 21 that Zhai was suspected to have embezzled bank funds and fled.

The Ministry of Public Security issued a nationwide order for Zhai's arrest.

Zhai was arrested on March 21 in Heilongjiang Province in northeast China and was sent back to Dalian on March 24.

Zhai had allegedly been embezzling money starting from 1999 while working as a typist to input data into computer system, local police said.

Police did not reveal how he managed embezzled so much. Further investigation is underway, they said.
