Kyrgyzstan's acting president Kurmanbek Bakiyev said Sunday he is fully confident of the prospect of the relations between his country and Russia.

He said in an interview with Russia's TV Channel One that the ties between Kyrgyzstan and Russia will definitely develop and improve, and that his top priority would be spurring economic cooperation between the two countries.

Many other problems would be solved if the two sides have close economic ties, he said.

The acting president said Kyrgyzstan will continue to observe international accords reached before, adding that the Russian military bases will stay and the US troops will not be required to leave either.

While talking about the situation in his country, Bakiyev said there is still danger that extremist activities would prevail again. He called on law-enforcement agencies and his countrymen to be sober-minded and prevent such activities.

He said the future government would be formed by representatives from both northern and southern regions of the country. He did not rule out the possibility that officials from the previous administration will stay on.
