The Chinese government attaches great concern to safeguarding and promoting people's health, and is willing to join hands with Canada to ensure the health of the two nations, said Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Yi Monday.

In a meeting with Canadian Minister of Health Ujjal Dosanjh, Wu said China is dedicated to solving public health problems by strengthening reform and facilitating development. As the developing country with the largest population in the world, China's efforts to invigorate its public health sector will not only benefit 1.3 billion Chinese, but also make a large contribution to the cause of world health.

Wu also praised Canada's adherence to the one-China policy within the framework of the World Health Organization (WHO), stressing that the Chinese government is also concerned about the health and welfare of the people in Taiwan.

Dosanjh said Canada vows to continue to cooperate with China on challenges in the public health sector.
