While attending "The Eighth Academic Symposium of Sun Yat-sen and Modern China" held recently, experts on Sun Yat-sen Thought across the Straits and from the US and Japan unanimously believed that peaceful and healthy Cross-Strait relations is the common wish of the people both in mainland and Taiwan.
Zhang Ruibin, director of National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taiwan, who chaired the symposium, noted that Dr. Sun Yat-sen is a great man admired by the people across the Straits, and his thought is of realistic significance in dealing with Cross-Strait relations. Delivering speech at the symposium, Gao Hui, director of the Graduate Institute of Chinese Mainland Studies under Chinese Culture University in Taiwan, said that the Mainland and Taiwan should enhance wide exchange in terms of economy, trade, culture and education on the current stage, open the "three direct links of trade, mail, and air and shipping services across the Taiwan Straits", ease hostility and co-exist peacefully. In the fullness of time the cross-Straits relations will finally be solved through peaceful means.
Yuan Ximing, associate research fellow with the Institute of History under Shanghai Academy of Social Science, added that the life of Dr. Sun Yat-sen was dedicated to China's unification and national unity. The research of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's nationalism should start with the whole interests of the Chinese Nation, safeguarding national unity and country's unification.
