UN imposes sanctions on suspected human rights violators in Darfur
font size

The UN Security Council voted on Tuesday in favor of a resolution imposing a travel ban and an assets freeze on alleged perpetrators of human rights violations in Darfur, a war-battered region in west Sudan.

The resolution, drafted by the United States, was adopted by a vote of 12-0, with abstentions from China, Russia and Algeria.

The approved sanctions measures also target individuals who constitute a threat to stability in Darfur.
