Farmland area decreases by over 800,000 hectares in 2004

The Ministry of Land and Resources released on March 29 the result of a survey of national land use in 2004.

According to the survey, last year, about 145, 067 hectares of cultivated land was used for construction, 63, 267 hectares ruined in disasters, 204, 667 hectares cut due to structural adjustment in agriculture and 732, 867 hectares used for ecological rehabilitation.

The total area of the four was 1.14587 million hectares. At the same time, 345, 600 hectares of land was supplemented for reclamation.

Totally the net decrease of the area of cultivated land was about 800, 267 hectares.
