China hopes to maintain friendly military exchanges with the Republic of Korea (ROK), increase mutual trust in a bid to promote the all-round and healthy development of Sino-ROK relations, Chinese Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan told his ROK counterpart Yoon Kwang-ung Wednesday.

In their talks, Cao, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and a state councilor, said the military ties between the two countries progressed well in recent years.

He reiterated China's consistent stance on the "issue of the Korean Peninsula," and expressed China's readiness to enhance coordination with related parties and jointly safeguard the regional peace and stability.

Yoon said ROK and China share common interests in maintaining regional peace, stability and prosperity. He hopes that the two countries as well as their armies can further deepen exchanges and cooperation.

He also briefed Cao about ROK's views on international and regional security situation and its stance and policy on the Korean Peninsula related issues.

Yoon arrived in Beijing Wednesday morning, kicking off his China trip as guest of Cao. Before the talks, Cao held a welcome ceremony for his visit.
