font size

Six contingents of China's team to measure Mt. Qomolangma have entered the unpopulated zone in north Tibet and begun making preparations for observations of six measuring points.

The team to measure Mt. Qomolangma had completed observations at nearly 30 measuring points along the Qinghai-Tibet highway since March 17. On March 27 the team split itself into two sub-teams, one went westwards from Xicaze and entered the unpopulated zone via Lazi, Angren and Cuoqin County. The other went eastwards and reached the unpopulated zone via Shenzha County.

Six typical measuring points that forms a closed loop nearly 1,000 kms in length will be selected in the 600, 000 sq. kms' unpopulated zone in north Tibet. After connecting with satellite at the same time, a 48-hour non-stop precision measuring of statistics including longitude, latitude etc of these points will be conducted.
