China doesn't want to see divided UN: official
font size

Chinese vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei said Friday, while speaking about Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao 's upcoming visit to South Asia, that China doesn't want to see a divided United Nations.

Wu said China supports the reform of the United Nations and the enlargement of the Security Council. However, China says that the United Nations should be "more united through the reform and play a bigger role in international affairs." Reforms should help the United Nations to carry out work in all fields effectively, he said.

The reform of the United Nations is a hot topic worldwide, Wu said. The attention that the issue has received will be helpful for the reforms.

Wu also said China understands the willingness of some countries to enter the Security Council or be permanent members. However, he noticed that their success depends on their own efforts and the recognition from the international community.
