The World Health Organization (WHO) has cautioned Zambia against the Ebola-like fever that has killed over 120 people in neighboring Angola since last October, the official Zambia Daily Mail reported Friday.
WHO resident representative in Zambia Stella Anyangwe was quoted as saying that though there is no need for Zambia to panic over the epidemic known as Marburg Viral Hemorrhagic, it still has to take precautions to keep the virus at bay.
"The Zambia-Angola border is very far away from the northern Angolan towns of Uige and Cabinda bordering Democratic Republic of the Congo and Congo Brazzaville where there is this Marburg Viral Hemorrhagic fever, so there is no need for people here to be scared of contracting the fever," she said.
However, she said there is need for people to be aware of the epidemic and immediately isolate people showing symptoms like high fever, severe headache and excessive bleeding.
Health workers and families taking care of patients suffering from fever should exercise special caution, she said.
