Events were held in Phangnga in southern Thailand Saturday to mark a hundred days after the tsunami disaster which left property devastated and thousands of people perished.

The provincial governor, Anuwat Maeteeviboolwut, presided over the opening ceremony Saturday at Bang Niang beach in Ta Kua Pa district, according to the Thai News Agency.

At the ceremony, Anuwat lit six lanterns to signify the six coastal provinces which were devastated by the tsunami.

Photographs showing various aspects of the tsunami, including the rescues of victims taken by foreign volunteers, were on sale as well as clothes and souvenirs.

Proceeds will be used to assist the disaster victims.

Local and foreign musicians will perform in a musical show on Saturday night.

Volunteers and a foundation have organized the events to remember those who died in the disaster and to help boost the morale of those affected by the tsunami.
