The security forces have foiled the anti-government guerrillas' attempt to block highways across Nepal, the Royal Nepalese Army said Sunday.
"The joint security forces thwarted the so-called blockade along the Mungling-Narayanghadh section of Mahendra Highway," army spokesman Deepak Gurung told reporters.
The guerrillas torched seven trucks and created obstructions to block the vehicles, but the security forces have cleared the roads, Gurung said.
The security forces also escorted vehicles on the highways to provide security for the traffic, he noted.
Hundreds of vehicles were stranded for hours waiting for entering and leaving the Kathmandu Valley on Saturday, but Gurung assured, "Traffic flow will resume from Sunday morning."
Meanwhile, the Dhading District Administration Office has imposed curfew along the Naubise-Jogimara section of the Prithvi highway, some 50 km west of Kathmandu, from Friday until further notice.
The curfew follows rumors of vehicular strikes along major highways and fresh blockade in the capital for 11 days from Sunday called by the guerrillas.
