China expresses condolence over death of Pope: FM spokesman

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said in Beijing Sunday that the Chinese government and people express their condolences over the death of Pope John Paul II.

Two Chinese Catholic groups, Catholic Patriotic Association of China and the Chinese Catholic Bishops College, also sent a telegram to Vatican Sunday morning to express condolences on behalf of more than 5 million Catholics in the country.
